What’s the best professional advice you’ve ever received?
A former boss, nearing retirement, once told me, “Do you think I will be the one that determines my replacement?  I will have a say in it, but you and your co-workers will ultimately decide who replaces me. The one who is the most competent AND helps those around him or her be successful will most likely lead going forward.”
What was your first job?
I was a parking-lot attendant at Valleyfair.  I picked up garbage by hand in the parking lot and then directed cars.

It’s simple, but about, oh, 7 years ago, I looked up at the dinner table and my 5 kids were all quietly and earnestly eating their dinner, and I looked at my wife and smiled.  I was proud to be able to provide for them and take care of them.
